Actress Ali Larter is "Obsessed"

Being able to reach out to dazzling, glamorous silver screen stars is always a special pleasure, so the The Ticker’s staff was excited when the Arts section was invited to participate in a conference call with star Ali Larter as she promoted her new movie, “Obsessed.”

Larter, famous for her whipped cream-bikini role in Varsity Blues and her acting in the sci-fi television series on NBC “Heroes,” plays a woman with a dark obsession. The new flick, directed by Steve Shill and co-starring Beyoncé Knowles and Idris Elba, involves a bizarre love triangle between three gorgeous actors; Larter, a young temp with a twisted obsession for her boss, Larter’s boss, Elba and Elba’s wife, Knowles. Larter summed up the plot as an “imaginary office romance with disastrous consequences.”

“Obsessed,” set in a world where technology bends the traditional rules of courtship, is a lover’s worst nightmare. Cell phone calls made after dark and personal e-mails allow people to stay in touch outside formal settings and creep into one’s personal life.

“We now have modern technology and many new ways to have an affair,” said Larter. “Is it appropriate to send a personal e-mail to your boss? If someone sends you an i-Chat invitation at 11 p.m., is it appropriate to answer? That’s so interesting. People spend more time at the office than with their family. [“Obsessed”] draws on the fears and jealousies that arise from the imbalance.”

Although Larter’s character, Lisa Sheridan, is hunting for husbands, it turns out that Knowles’ character, Sharon, does not have to question her man’s fidelity. The hook of the movie is that Lisa Sheridan is so desperately in love that she fabricates a steamy affair with her boss.

“Lisa Sheridan is delusional, a bit of a psychopath. But you can’t play her that way,” said Larter. “There are reasons, past experiences, for why she does what she does.” She really gets lost in her psychosis and [the audience] must understand why she went down this path of believing one thing when another is probably true. [The audience] gets to see the three different points of view of people in the same situation.”

Larter is, overall, “pleased with the outcome of the film,” but in a statement of special importance to Baruch students, she divulged that wrapping up a film is only part of the final product.

“Then there’s the marketing process. Thanks to that, you see the trailer and you know what you get; [with “Obsessed”] you know you’re going to get your buck in popcorn and have so much fun watching it.”

Larter, a golden blonde with fierce Amazonian looks, could easily be pigeonholed as the interchangeable lead in a chick flick. Instead, she plays three different women on the hit show “Heroes,” a TV drama with a complex plot and a devoted fan base. When a reporter asked about the process of getting into shape a decade after her role in “Varsity Blues,” Larter wasted no time in retorting, “Well, you saw the trailer. How do you think I look?”

She thrives on her work, even when the most difficult aspect of playing Sheridan’s character onscreen was “hopping from one character to the next” while shooting “Heroes” and “Obsessed” simultaneously, a routine which took “months of working 12 hours a day.”

The most exciting and encouraging part of the Q-and-A session was Larter’s answer to a student reporter’s inquiry about which qualities are essential to reaching success. With a sparkle in her voice, Larter said, “Oh, gosh, just find what you love to do and find a way to make money off of it! You spend so much time at work, so make the most of your time there.” Larter also said, “You’re going to hear a lot of no’s when you have ambition, but no matter what, write letters to the people you want to meet. Keep going after that job from which you got rejected! Just keep charging forward.”

After the arduous emotional efforts and planning that went into making “Obsessed,” Larter is ready for a laugh. It was obvious that the actress believes work shouldn’t wear one down. Larter exclaimed, “I’d love to laugh! We’re shooting scenes where there’s intense altercation and it can be painful. I’m ready to do a comedy. Give me a little romance, a little lightness.” But before you dip into some hilarity, check out the tense, raunchy “Obsessed,” in theaters April 24.

Angie jealous of Natalie

She flew into a rage when she heard that Natalie Portman had asked Brad Pitt to play her lover in a new film

Angelina Jolie and Natalie Portman

The Changeling star reportedly flew into a rage with partner Brad Pitt – with whom she raises six children – after learning the Closer actress had personally asked for him to play her older lover in a new movie.

A source said, “Angelina had a massive fit and was shouting her head off. She accused Brad of flirting with Natalie. Angelina can’t help but feel threatened. Brad knows how jealous she gets but won’t stop saying how gorgeous and intelligent Natalie is. He keeps saying she is ‘cute as a button’.

Angelina is particularly worried because she and Brad started their relationship after meeting on the sets of Mr and Mrs Smith in 2005 while he was still married to Jennifer Aniston, and she fears a case of history repeating itself. The source added, “Angelina worries about karma. It’s eating her up.”

Angelina and Brad have been dogged by rumours their relationship is in trouble in recent weeks. It was recently reported Brad had pleaded with his girlfriend to attend couples’ counselling in a desperate bid to save their relationship. Angelina is said to have agreed, but only after seeking the advice of her ex-husband Billy Bob Thornton.

A source said, “This just caused more friction with Brad because although he doesn’t have a problem with her talking to her exes, he doesn’t understand why she would take Billy Bob’s advice to try therapy as when he suggested it to her she reacted very angrily.”

The Fast and The Furious 4

Vin Diesel and Paul Walker are both stuck with their respective careers and reunite for the first time since The Fast and the Furious in 2001. The fourth edition of the movie
also bring back Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster. Director Justin Lin has tried to infuse some changes to the movie with a new storyline but other things tend to remain the same.

Dom Toretto [Vin Diesel] is wanted by the FBI and is joined by undercover FBI agent Brian [Paul Walker] as he builds and trashes some super fast cars, determined to take on Mexican crime lord and avenge the death of his ladylove Letty [Michelle Rodriguez]. Braga heads a Mexican drug cartel, and it's one of his men, Phoenix, who put a Bullet through Letty.

While Dom is out to murder Phoenix, Brian hopes to catch Braga alive who is wanted in several cases. How do they meet these two ends? By racing like Speed demons and fighting like invincible super heroes. Dom races like a fearless fighter and gets into Braga's team. Brian falls for his sister Mia [Jordana Brewster] and adds some passionate romance to the tale. When Dom comes to know about it he gets furious.

The chase are a trademark of The Fast and The Furious series and in this edition the scenes are amazing involving helicopters, SWAT and the FBI agents. Camera work is awesome which is so vital in action movies. The 106 minute flick is a shade longer and some more trimming could have helped as at times the stars themselves bored

Justin Lin is smart in keeping the romance in the background and all the furious action in the foreground. Love is a sub plot in the movie and the bone-breaking stunts that keep the movie on the move. The cast does well but Vin Diesel and Paul Walker have grown older by 8 years since the last flick and the shades of this aging is felt in the movie. Overall The Fast and the Furious 4 does justice to the genre but fails to live upto the expectation of the great racing series.

'The Hills' Stars Heidi And Spencer's Bumpy Road To The Wedding

After just months of living together, they broke off the engagement later that year. Heidi told Spence to move out as she gave him back the ring.

Well, he came back, and the duo once again decided to go forth with their plans to marry. The couple then eloped in Mexico where Spencer told Heidi, "It's a secret Mexican wedding. It's for us." Upon returning home, the couple wanted to make it official but when they got to the courthouse, they postponed their wedding in lieu of a bigger ceremony — like the one that took place on Saturday (April 25).

But before Saturday's big ceremony, the couple were once again plagued with problems, such as Spencer possibly cheating on Heidi with a bartender, causing the duo to see a therapist. Now it seems they've worked out their problems, and finally got that big wedding Heidi always wanted.
